Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Igor V. Petrishenko has visited the Belarusian-Russian University.
The Deputy Prime Minister was invited to visit the innovation, research and development exhibition and the facilities of the university; he familiarized himself with creative and sporting achievements as well as activities of students’ construction teams and volunteering.
Igor Petrishenko attended a meeting with students and teachers where he addressed the issue of youth policy and outlined the priorities for the next five-year plan developed during the 6th All-Belarusian People’s Assembly. Young people, heads of state administration bodies, public structures and businesses are encouraged to participate in discussion platforms, which are viewed as an effective and attractive way to develop a sense of patriotism and civic responsibility.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that education is one of the most multifaceted and complex issues. The national policy in this area is aimed at forming moral and civic qualities, ideological conviction and respect for the Belarusian nationhood. Teaching plays a special role in these issues. Plans are already underway to strengthen the ideological content of the teaching and learning process in educational institutions, to provide its regulatory guidance and scientific and methodological support, which should be implemented in the current academic year.
Igor Petrishenko highlighted the crucial role of culture in the patriotic and educational activities of young people. “Culture is the foundation of the nation, the soul of our people. If we do not preserve our heritage and traditions, do not foster cultural awareness in young people, we will not build a strong and prosperous country,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Besides, Igor Petrishenko focused on the activities envisaged in the state program “Education and Youth Policy” for the current five-year plan. In particular, he said that more than 30% of the country’s higher education institutions should enter the list of top 5 thousand universities in international university rankings. The Belarusian-Russian University has the resources and capabilities necessary to achieve this goal. The University has implemented the project of the Union State “Development of educational and scientific activities of the Belarusian-Russian University on the basis of innovative technologies”, which has helped improve the quality of training.
