From May 23 to May24, 2019, the International Scientific and Practical Conference ‘Operation “Bagration” - the Prologue to the Great Victory’, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders, was held at the Belarusian-Russian University. More than 100 people attended the conference, including 20 doctors of science and PhD holders, PhD and master’s degree students of higher education institutions of our country and the Russian Federation.
As part of the conference, the exhibition ‘Winners’ of photographs taken during the Great Patriotic War, which were provided by Mogilev Regional Local History Museum named after E. Romanov, was organized. The exposition was supplemented by the Great Patriotic War propaganda posters, fiction, scientific and academic books on the problems of the history of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 stored in the library of the Belarusian-Russian University. On May 22, the exhibition was opened. Rector of the university Professor M.E. Lustenkov and Counselor of the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Belarus M. O. Novodvorskaya addressed the students and the staff of the university.
On May 23, 2019, the plenary session of the conference was held, where the First Secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Belarus S.V. Sedyh and the First Deputy Head of the General Directorate for Education of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee S.A. Syrankov presented their papers. According to the program of the conference, the keynote addresses were delivered by L.A. Sugako, PhD in Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Universal History of Mogilev State University named after A.A. Kuleshov; A.V. Kuznetsova-Timonova, PhD in Historical Sciences, Senior Researcher of the Department of Military History of the State Scientific Institution ‘Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus’; S.E. Makarova, PhD in Historical Sciences, Head of the Department of Humanities of the Belarusian-Russian University. The plenary session was attended by I. A. Batishcheva, Head of the Department for Ideological Work and Youth Affairs of the Mogilev City Executive Committee.
The resolution adopted at the conference emphasized that the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation are pursuing a consistent policy against falsifying the history of the Great Patriotic War and World War II. In the year of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders, as well as on the eve of the 75th anniversary of Victory Day, it is necessary to do everything possible to avoid belittling the role of the USSR in defeating fascism.
On May 24, 2019, an overview of the results of the Competition of Research Papers of senior secondary school students, undergraduates and master’s degree students was given. 37 scientific projects from all regions of the country were submitted to the Competition. The judging panel of the Competition emphasized the high quality of the projects submitted, where the results of the students’ research work, the desire to show the history of their small homeland and to revive memories of fellow countrymen who defended their homeland from invaders were reflected.
