On September 1, a welcome event for new students “Hello Freshers!” was held outside educational building No. 7 of the Belarusian-Russian University. New students had the opportunity to become acquainted with the university, its customs and traditions.
The students attended an exhibition of sporting and creative achievements of the university, familiarized themselves with projects of the volunteer club “From Heart to Heart” and achievements of the student construction teams. The freshers were invited to join music and dance groups, volunteer teams and sports clubs. In addition, the visitors helped themselves to draniki (potato pancakes) cooked by students of the Faculty of Engineering and Economics and traditional pancakes served by the university canteen.
The students watched performances of the University’s vocal studio “Suzor'e” (Ilya Kubrakov, Tatiana Korotkina, Anastasiya Kamkova, Viacheslav Shved), participated in a quiz conducted by Alesia Pestunova and Vlad Baranov and talked to senior students. Artiom Gavrilenko, a student of the Faculty of Economics and a member of the university basketball team, Jennet Niyazova, a student from Turkmenistan and a prize winner of the “Friendship of Peoples” Festival, Elena Baturo, a student of the Faculty of Economics and a volunteer of the “From Heart to Heart” Club, Vladislav Lasitsa, a student of the Faculty of Construction and the leader of a student construction team, shared their experiences of studying at the Belarusian-Russian University. Vitaly Artiomchik, Chairman of the Social and Cultural Public Association ‘Naslediye’ (‘Heritage’), presented the association and its activities.
The students visited educational laboratories of the university, took part in sporting activities, such as arm wrestling, air rifle shooting and table tennis. Basketball, football and volleyball fans had the opportunity to watch live games and cheer on the teams they liked.
In general, the visitors enjoyed the atmosphere of the event which showed that the university is about a lot more than simply attending lectures and seminars. Being a student is enjoyable and interesting; it involves having fun and meeting new people. Each day can be filled with something new and exciting.
Members of the youth volunteer team, music and dance groups, student volunteers, staff of the Department for Extracurricular Activities, the university canteen staff, the Department of Physical Education and Sports, the trade union committee of students, the Belarusian Republican Youth Union created a warm and friendly atmosphere leaving a lasting impression on everyone.
