The preliminary round of the National Student Basketball League - 2021 among men’s teams of DIVISION 2 in the 2A subgroup was held at the Belarusian-Russian University on February 22-24, 2021.
The competition featured the teams of the Belarusian-Russian University, Brest State Technical University, the Belarusian State Academy of Communications and the Belarusian State University of Transport.
The university team took second place in the subgroup having beaten the teams of the Belarusian State Academy of Communications by 79-38, the Belarusian State University of Transport by 80-66; it was defeated by the team of the Brest State Technical University 71-84.
Ilya Popkov, a student of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, a candidate for Master of Sports in Basketball, was selected as the best player of the university team. During the close game, he scored 34 points for our university’s team, including 9 three-pointers. Ilya’s overall performance was 70/15 points.
The university’s athletes demonstrated strong-minded characters and team unity as well as high performance and technical excellence, allowing their fans to watch some interesting and exciting moments of the game.
The university’s team will take part in the final round of the National Student Basketball League-2021 among men’s teams in DIVISION 2, where the teams will be competing for four places.

The coach of the team is Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Education and Sports E. A. Kopylova.
